Default Question with key fob?

2001 GS300, the key fob started acting up today but not really sure if I need to replace it or not. I'll start off saying that a few weeks ago the fob seemed to completely stop working so I replaced the battery and that seemed to work, not sure if that has anything to do with the new issue or not. Now the fob won't lock the doors. I press the lock button and the red light on the fob lights up but doesn't lock the door. Unlock doesn't seem to do anything at all either. I have to manually lock the door which does lock all four doors.

Does that sound like the fob is just going bad? If I need to replace it, what are some suggestions on where and how to do that?

Do all 4 door lock actuators work like they should when you push the lock/unlock switch inside the car?

Yes, all door actuators seem to work.

Update, this morning the fob seemed to work like normal. I'm assuming that means it's the key fob going bad and hopefully not something else like an ECU or something.

What is the best way to replace the fob? Since the key is part of the fob can I get something off eBay or Amazon, or do I have to go to a dealer?

When I was searching for a master key with all the buttons last year, I found my local dealer to be the cheapest at $141 and they also cut the new key to the vin for free. You can program it yourself as long as you have the original key.
