Headlight Auto leveling solved GS400
So I've been wanting a gs430 for a long time and it never happened but I recently purchased my father a 1998 Gs400 and it's awesome!
However, we are having an issue with the headlights. The seller recently changed the headlights to aftermarket D2S bulbs and claims the headlights point up now and doesn't know how it fix it. After owning the car for the last month I have done some research and discovered the car has auto leveling feature... 20 year old car with autoleveling technology! Amazing. I have read threads and can't find a solution.
Both headlights point up when when turning the lights on. There's no leveling happening at all and do not hear any motors engagaing. I've gathered that there are motors in the headlights a module that controls these motors, a front and rear balancing sensor, and possibly a fuse somewhere. When turning the lights on there is a green headlight symbol that comes on.
Does anybody have an idea? Should I buy new stock bulbs first? Thanks for any help

A quick search found this useful link.

Thanks for the reply but I've read that and tried it already. Adjusting the screw has no effect on positioning. It's the autoleveling components that's I'm trying to troubleshoot.

There are a couple guides on how to check the auto level sensors. they are on the Left (driver side in the US) connected to the suspension control arms.
They get rusty and eventually stops working. The leveling actuators do but rarely fails. The height sensors are usually the culprit.

It also sounds like the wrong bulb. D2S & D2R has notches that properly align the bulbs. The notches in the D2S is in a different position from the D2R. Find you some D2R bulbs and the aim should be where it supposed to be

Problem was solved!
I decided to keep things simple and I ordered some new bulbs. I took the old ones out and noticed (compared stock bulb) that it was missing the 4 metal tabs that rest from the base to the bulb. Anyhow 50 bucks later and the problem was solved!
