Default Tranny install: Remove Engine First?

Need to replace the tranny in my gs400.
Question: Can I remove the tranny without removing the engine? Or is it better/easier to remove the engine-tranny first?

Thanks

You can do it without removing the engine.

Thought as much. Thanks
just a matter of long extensions to reach the bell housing covers bolts? I have a tranny jack and put the new motor bad tranny assem in myself.
Difficulty scale from 1 to 10 on removing the tranny from beneath the car? Any gotchas to watch out for?

Yes....use some long extensions for the top bolts....lower the trans crossmember to give you more room. I give the whole job a 5. No real gotchas.....but make sure you pull the starter first....will give you some more room in the area. Also, when you unbolt the torque converter from the flex plate make sure you push the converter back towards the tranny. Should have about 1/4" gap between it and the flex plate......just check and make sure it spins freely. Then you can remove the bolts holding the trans to the engine.
