Default Interior light mod?

I upgraded the interior lights to all LED bulbs and it looks great but I want the lights above the rear doors to turn on with the dome light (most new cars do this automatically now). I wanted to just run a jumper wire (from the fuse to the dome light) to the fuse for the rear lights in the fusebox. It looks though like the fuse for each rear light are in separate fuse boxes in opposite footwells and the dome light fuse is under the hood. I was wondering if their is another fuse in the footwell boxes that would mimic the dome light fuse, or am I just going to have to do it the hard way and splice off the wires leading to the dome light in the headliner and then run them back and splice them into the wires for the lights above each rear door?

sounds like quite the endeavor. are you electrical engineer enough to make it to where the front map lights don't come on when one of your rear passengers turn their dome light on? I say that since your talking about splicing the same power source for both lights.

I wish i made electrical engineer money! I must say i wasn't formally educated on the subject but have gained experience from the school of hard knocks (and YouTube). I already installed my own aftermarket head unit (radio) and amplifier. Thought the amp was a little under-powered so i added an additional car battery in the trunk to add some voltage before the amp. It helped out with the headlights dimming every time the bass hit. I got a cap (capacitor) sitting in the garage that I'm going to wire up also just haven't had the time. I was basically hoping someone had already done this interior light mod and had figured out a short cut to having to run wires through the headliner.

You would need to intercept the signal that goes from the rear door ECU to the above door lights. It might be using the ground wire or positive wire to switch it.

Please note if the rear lights are ground triggered by the door ecu, and the map light is positively triggered, this mod won't work at all. This could be rare but possible.

Then you would have to run that signal from the bulb itself, not ECU side, and feed it tediously through what ever pillars, plastic, center console, carpet, etc to the map light.

I agree with bbg on this one, a lot of work.

I'm thinking i might splice off the power that leads to the dome light and run it back to each rear door lights through the headliner. With a coat hanger i should be able to fish it through. I should only need to run the power wires since the ground is already there.

Default Progress?

Has anyone made any progress on how to do this light mod? I'd like the rear map lights to function normally, I just want them to turn on whenever the front dome light is toggled to turn on. I'm not seeing anything else on this forum.

Just get bright leds panels and you can light up the whole interior with just the front dome light.
