Leaking tranny and brake master cylinder. These aren't so bulletproof after all.
Combined the repair costs of both of them exceeds the amount I paid for this car, so not worth it.
Overall I'm happy with it. I've changed almost every suspension part in front and rear. I've never taken it to dealer except when I had to repair a dent in my left rear corner and when I confirmed the leak in BMC.
You'll save a ton of money if you can do small repairs yourself.
I believe the BMC problem is pre-2000 model year only
2001 GS430 with 108k. Got it a few weeks ago. So far I have spent about $400 on it. Oil change, spark plugs, used set of OEM wheels and registration. The car has not given me any problems. Previous owner has the worked document so I was confident in my purchase. I am in the same situation. Going from VW TDI to a GS430. Had no problems with my TDI but since VW is buying it back I figured I'll get what I can since its going to be a nice pay out.
the door actuators are cheap parts but annoying to install, if you plan on doing aristo chrome door handles then i suggest doing them together while you're in there
otherwise it's been a great car for me, I think you will be more likely to hear about problem cars on forums because the average owner with a problem-free cars is less likely to sign up
