White 2000 GS400 271,000 miles. Used dealer asking 3800. I haven't seen the car in person but the listing has been there for awhile. Im guessing the high miles is scaring buyers.
Personally the car intrigues me a bit. I could use a bigger sedan and in sub 5K cars another gs400 could fill what I need. I got rid of my gs because I wanted a manual but now I have a gf with no car need a car family car in case she gets pregnant again. Knowing about gs makes me look at these again.
What makes me uneasy about this particular car is the mileage on the transmission, when and if the timing belt service has been done, and potential evap codes.

The car looks like it's been well-maintained cosmetically, so assuming they did the same for the mechanical side of things, the timing belt should've been done (at least) twice already. Once at 90,000, once at 180,000, meaning 270,000 would've been the next service interval.
My guess is that they didn't see value in doing a $1,000 service on a 270,000 mile car and decided to get rid of it instead.
You could create an account at Lexus.com, plug in the VIN, and it will give you a list of all the services performed at a dealer. There's no mention of timing belt on the CarFax report, but they did have a few services done.
But if the belt has been changed, I'd go drive it and see what you think. If it runs, drives, and shifts fine, I wouldn't be afraid of it.

No way id consider it. If 3800 is your max then maybe but you can find ~130K for 5000 if you look hard enough. And considering your location you have alot of selection with dallas. Could it be a gem that goes 500,000+? Possibly but why risk it when the odds of a well maintained GS @ 130K getting to 270,000+ is much greater.
Some quick examples:
100K less miles

---Just noticed youre looking for a GS400; my opinion still doesnt change. I have seen some clean GS400's around 5K but might need more miles than the GS300 to hit that price. You might have to look alittle longer since there seems to be less 400's available.

^in my experience, the one or two owner high mileage GSs are always nicer and cheaper in the long run than lower mileage ones with a few owners. Mainly because everything that needed to be replaced has, while the lower mileage ones were dumped once the owner realized they couldn't afford to fix it and someone else picked up the problem. Just my experience though

I like 1 owner cars (who doesnt) and actually saw a white 127K gs300 go for $5K a few weeks back (1 or 2 owner). But honestly there should be no issues if the car has multiple owners as long as there are service records (lexus and carfax are great resources for this if the seller doesnt have records themselves). If you see back to back few month owners then thats a red flag but we're talking about 15+ year old car as well so I feel like if they owned it for many years each it should be fine.
Guess it comes down to how long you want to wait, if youre willing to travel a few hours to the car, and if you can expand your budget. At 3800 you might not do better but at 5000 I dont see why you cant get 60-100K+ miles less in similar condition. If we are talking about 20K driving a year (more than average) thats 3-4 years more use.
Just my 2 cents (wanted to expand on my reasoning; ive been looking for 2 used cars for over a month, I check craigslist, ebay, and autotrader everyday I look within 350 miles)

Sorry cant tell if youre replying to me or the original poster. I believe he is aiming for the 400 since thats what he linked too.
As for me: If I come across a 400 that fits my criteria ill get it but if not the 300 will be fine. Im sure the 400 is more fun to drive but on the flip side im sure the 300 is easier to work on (less crammed engine bay) and can get a lower millage/newer 300 for the same cost as a 400 (though in some cases the difference isnt much). The car's for my parents who currently have a 01 buick century; either way should have plenty of power for them so the V8 is not as large of a pro for me. Im keeping my eyes open for a clean low millage 300, 400, or 430 (newer ones without throttle lag)

Really just kind of looking for a third another and the price looks tempting if this car is in great shape body and mechanically wise. I know that around 5500 theres a lot of GS400 but usually they are around 200 miles away. If I was dead set on a GS400 and no other car traveling wouldn't be an issue at all. This car has been sitting so im thinking that they will be willing to budge a little to get it sold.
While I certainly would prefer sub 150,000 mile GS400 It wouldnt be putting 10,000 miles a year on the car. My girlfriend doesnt work so our total miles driven is pretty low and living close to work is a priority to me. Thus far ive put 10,500 miles on my mustang in 16 months and probably 4,000 miles on my 02 lancer (non evo)

Plus its white, one of the best colors for the GS IMO

EDIT: Says it was repossessed a number of times. So maybe consider how this owner might have neglected it, look for service records during their ownership. Also cross reference with carfax to see how long they owned it (autochecker doesnt separate by owner very well).
