Thinking about a 2000 GS400
Hello all,
As you can see, I'm new here. I currently own a 2000 BMW 540i 6 speed. I'm looking for a car that I can drive for at least the next 4-5 years without expecting major problems. I don't think the 540i will do that, so I was looking into purchasing a 2000 GS400 with navi. The car has 78K miles. Is there anything I should be looking for when test driving it? How reliable will the car be? I know that Lexus/Toyota make some of the most reliable cars out there, but are there any known problem with the GS400?

There are a lot of threads on this lately, you might want to seach or check out the last couple of days.
Personally if you are looking at 2000's might as well go for a 2001+ 430. I like the updates of the 01 (again do a search)
Be aware of the 90k service which is expensive due to the timing belt. Also look for the regular stuff with any used car (oil changes, trans fluid condition, etc) There are lots of threads on what to look for.
Be aware the GS will drive a lot differently than your 540, especially stock to stock. Some people don't like the GS drive compared to the BMW, personally I like being pampered and the Lexus does that. Just make sure it's right for you.

One thing to look for is how well the car has been maintained. If its been maintained by Lexus you can call most Lexus dealerships with the VIN number to find out what services have been performed.
Make certain the car hasn't been wrecked or had major damage. You don't want to inherit someone else's problems.
