Default Supra LSD Pricing

Hey guys, I'm thinking about purchasing a Supra LSD from a local Lexus guy. He says he doesn't know exactly how many miles are on it, but he's had it on his car for 6k and it runs like a champ, no noises or problems. He said the gears look brand new when he took the pumpkin apart.

He wants 1k for it, but while doing some digging I noticed they were going for cheaper than that. What should I be paying for a supra LSD in great condition?

For $1K I'd suggest you look into a brand new, aftermarket LSD. The Supra's shouldn't run anymore than $500.

Wrong. Around $1k is normal. Ask me how I know and how other members know that have this unit.

Yes, you can purchase a brand new aftermarket LSD for around $700 but keep in mind that it's not the entire pumpkin. You would need to swap in all the parts yourself into your OEM pumpkin (time) or pay someone to do it for you. If you pay someone for the swap it's going to wind up being close to $1k anyway.

That's my take on it. Good luck OP.

Wouldn't you prefer a brand new one vs a used one for the same money? They are both installed for the same money. I would, unless I misread your post.

Where can I get the LSD innards for my GS 430? I would rather get something new than used honestly. But won't it be expensive for someone to basically rebuild the diff?

That'd be wrong on your end of the ocean. Over here, they don't go for that much (ask me how I know)... priced one out at $400 from a Supra breaker in the UK before I moved over here to Germany. So yeah $1K for a used,19+ year old diff is too much. Just saying there bro.

I agree with you, so where can I get LSD innards for my GS 430? What options do I have? I'd like to get as close to the stock ratio as possible.

I assumed you both were from the United States. I think most of the people in CL are from the United States. I believe you both if it's cheaper oversees; I have no idea not do I care.

The Supra diff is a great mod and people get it not just for the LSD aspect but for the steeper 3.73 gearing as well; which works good with the GS4's power curve. A drop in LSD such as the TRD unit will just give you the LSD.

The Supra LSD also doesn't require friction modifiers like the others do either; just straight up diff fluid. I use Royal Purple Max Gear.

Just to be clear... it's the automatic TT MKIV Supra diff that bolts right into a GS300, right?

I have a factory Supra LSD that I got a few years ago from a client building a 1000 hp Supra - he swapped for a different unit. I have only the LSD and not the ring & pinion - so I am debating buying a new Supra 3.76 ring & pinion, or just getting a GS300 3.92 diff to stab the LSD into and put it in my GS400. I do drive the car on the freeway, but it it not a commuter/daily car.

Any of you V8 guys running GS300 rears?
