I have a GS400 I am looking to purchase, but before I do so, I would like some advice.
It is a 2000 Platinum Series GS400. The owner purchased it at 125K miles and since then it is up to 130K Miles. He says he has done the timing belt, water belt and regular maintenance since he has purchased it. He has receipts and is willing to even take me to the shop where the work was performed. it is dropped on D2 1 Piece Coilovers, has a Front Lip and JDM Tails. Also has HID's on top and bottom. Also has a fresh paint job Brand New Tires. Stock Factory Radio. Is on Polished GS430 Wheels. Also quote from him " That's just to prove it has flares and it's been widen professionally. That's 19x10.5 in the rear and 19x9.5 in front. Flush fit no rubbing no nothing and not even dropped all the way."
I have attached some pictures as well. I have read that GS 300/400/430's have run up to 250K miles and more with regular maintenance and etc. He is asking 6K or OBO. What are your opinions?
The car looks nice ! The price sounds good especially when the major preventive & regular maintenance has been done. The Timing Belt / Water pump job alone will cost you around $600 - $1500 depending where you do it. Plus all the mod... I'd would say its a good buy.
That's just my personal opinion based on what I've gone thru when I was searching to buy my car.
Well he claims he's done all that, I'm going to bring my mechanic along with me to check. Take a drive with the music off, WOT, see if we hear anything unusual. That seems like a fair price right?
Thanks guys. I have another friend of mines who has a gs300 with a 2jz swap but hes asking 8-9 grand which is a little above my price range and it wasn't done professionally. I'd rather be low and slow.. lol I lost my license thru speeding. If it checks out, Club Lexus will def have a new member!

Good luck, hope you find exactly what your looking for....Don't settle!
Buys car, dumps a lot of money into maintenance, drives it for 5k miles, then attempts to sell?
Interesting.
Not so abnormal, I had my 1999 Gs400 for 2 1/2 yrs and put 9,000 miles on it. I put a lot into it to restore it. Then I decided to test the sale waters and it sold!
I would find out how long he owned it for. I may have been his "show car"
Personally when I see a car repainted I start to check things out with a fine tooth comb. A good paint guy can make a car look great but if the prep work was not up to par the paint job will look poor fairly quickly. Painting a car completely and doing it really well can cost you $5k easily. Perhaps he got an insurance job done, in which case you would want to find out what happened.
If the car was totally stock I would say 5-6K is an ok deal. The price of these cars is dropping... A car that has been customized or repainted like this one should be examined very carefully to see how well the work was done. The other way to look at it is if you would have done the same thing (like painting and custom flares) then maybe the price is ok. Personally not for me.
