My GS300 Sport sits around full time in the Garage. the od reads 9200 miles. i purchased this new off the lot back in Nov 2002 with 20 miles on the od. i have changed the oil and filter 2x. the anti freeze was replaced once back in 06 at 6000 miles, just did the trany fluid an anti freezse fluid as well as the brake fluid replacement. i am faced with the timing belt an serpentine belt replacement. the manual states what 60,000 or 6 years? should i wait another century and replace them? they both look to new to replace. no cracks or wrinkles.

definitely change the oil if its been sitting in the car for more then 6 months

what you didn't state is if your usage of the car is going to change.


If it's just going to sit in the garage for another 10years, without usage, why bother spending money on it. Say that service costs $3000. If you put 1000miles on it, that's $3/mile just for the maintenance.

 

no plans on driving miles in the future. spoke to a toyota parts mgr he states "leave it alone until the service manual calls for replacement. as long as the car is driven through out the years its all still new" he said he is not trying to push the parts either. key issue is the car gets some exercise though out its life which it does if not driven it gets turned on every other month for 45 minutes with ac on an heat. pics will be posted. thanks!

 

I think u should drive it.. And enjoy what you spent your money on. The cars value is only going to depreciate even more, it's not a classic. This would be a good opportunity to take it to lexus meets for the people who never got to see what a gs looks like new. Any pics?

 

Man WOW you gotta gem piece just "sitting around" in your garage fam... I say drive that thing! Be a cautious, meticulous guy with it and you won't need to change any belt nor timing belt till it hits 100k and maybe even ++++. Post some pics up man. Please.

Very nice, I went through same question on whether or not to change a TB in a 1999 4runner I just got with 40k miles, I decided against it, and will probably just wait until the mileage calls for it since its non-interference. Since you don't plan on driving it often, and I'm assuming you have other cars, I would just put it off. 9,000 miles is nothing, especially if you can't see any visible cracks. In general toyota/lexus timing belts seem a bit more resilient than others like audis/vws/ and old porsches (944 comes to mind). I will say this, as I did the same with the 4Runner since it had been sitting for 3 years, but I would have all change all fluids again (oil, brake, coolant, steering maybe)should only cost a few hundred. You may want to change the transmission and rear diff fluid, but with mileage so low, I'm not sure if you have to. Not many one owner cars on club lexus, especially here in the 2nd GS section

 

the garage is a well insulated no heat enviroment. cement floor , doors stay closed only when coming and going. in the coldest days of the winter nothing freezes up. this should help prevent ageing effect year round.
