Default This may be a dumb question....

Please bare with me on this one. I just bought my 98 GS400 about 2 weeks ago, and I don't have an owners manual for it yet. Today the little light on the cluster lit up, the one that is yellow and has a picture of the car with a few little lines (simulating taillights) on the rear. What is this and why did it come on? Common sense told me I had a bulb out somewhere, but I checked that and everything appears to be working properly. If my owners manual were here, I would be able to figure this one out myself... but.... hopefully you guys can tell me what that is.

Thanks!

Gino

check your brake lights. one should be dead. if you step on the brakes and it lights up, then one of the filaments in the dual filament bulb is dead. turn ur headlights on and see if you see all lights from the back.

oh yeah, when u turn on the lights, 5 lights turn on in the back, the brake light, the 2 center lights, and the 2 bottom lights on the side.

have someone sit in your car and you look from the rear. first ask them to push on teh brakes to see if some bulb burns out. if nothing, tell them to turn on headlight and see if the parking lights are out

and btw, talk to lexus and ask them to send you the manual, it's free

Hey, my 98 has the exact same problem. What kind of coincidence is that! Actually, I have two lights out now. The first was the driver front running light and I was informed by Synergy that one of my brake lights is out, too. I'll have the dealer take care of them during my 60K service. BTW, Welcome to CL!!!

ya its definitely your taillights , thats the good news ,now the bad , u have to take out the whole taillight to replace the bulb. 10 mm socket 4 the outside screws i think u'll need a 8 mm wrench for the inside screws, could b wrong with the inside ones. but thats bad thing(i guess not so bad) in the gs u have to take the whole taillight out to replace any burnt bulbs unlike other cars where the bulbs r right behind the inside panel. good luck! pretty esay 2 do.
