However, I want to put a coat of gloss over it because of the matte finish so it will match my paint. I'm wondering, what kind of gloss should I use? What kind of prep do I need to do?

I think the grill would only look good on darker colored cars like Black or Dark Cherry which I have seen.
Just spray it with a clearcoat if you want some gloss.

Does clear coat go on the same way as the basecoat? Several light coats or a couple thick coats?
