Default GS4 vs. E55 AMG in Car&Driver

I was pleased to see in my new C&D (March) that the GS430 is included in a feature article about the new Merc E55 AMG, where it was compared to the GS, Jag XJR and BMW M5. That is some very classy company, especially considering the $20k price difference between the GS and the other 3. Also bearing in mind that the numbers apparently came from previous road tests where the GS was running stock. Very respectable comparison -- reinforces my decision to buy the GS. Check it out!

while it's good that they p ut the gs4 together with the m5 and e55, it's too much difference. in every category the e55 will blow away the gs4

I think the only reason Lexus was considered for the comparo was probaly because CD wanted to include luxury sport hot rods and that was Lexus fastest car. Technically it shouldn't be there but CD might of had a criteria of testing fast luxury cars and whats more luxurious than a Lexus that doesn's cost more than peoples houses

Just to clarify, C&D didn't have a full comparison test w/ all these cars. At the end of the E55 preview (the test results section) they included the GS430's numbers for base price, acceleration, braking, etc. Regarding the E55, what a sweet car! For what it delivers, $74k seems like a reasonable price.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that the GS430 competes with the AMG (what a car) but was just glad to see it in there.

C&D wasn't that favorable on the E55. While it's REAL fast they didn't like the overly sensitive brakes, the steering, and the overall driving experience. Granted they're bimmerholics though.

almost every category. I would say lexus still blows them away in reliability

OUt of 5 categories that listed on the magazine (vs XJR, M5, E55 AMG):
1st - GS430 was the most affordable
2nd- braking 70-0 mph
2nd-road holding
1st-best fuel economy
Last-accelration.

Let's not forget reliability #1. Not bad for a car that was first introuduced 5 years ago and against cars that are priced way way above GS.

Did GS4 rank last?
Shouldn't they also have selected (Jag) S-Type R , in place of XJR in this comparison? I would definitily pick GS last! This car simply doesn't belong.... very stupid comparsion...
