Default Fuel Leveler Issues

I put a used fuel pump assembly in my 99 gs300 I think now my fuel gauge is off but sometimes I think it is right but one time it showed I had 1/4th tank then it almost died and I had no fuel what can cause this or what should I look for before the fuel pump went out the gauge worked good.

It's possible that you didn't reinstall the pump in the same position, causing the floater in the tank to get stuck on a ledge.

thanks for the reply that may be it my dad installed the pump I will be looking into this right now it says I have a quarter tank but I doubt it I am not getting stuck so I am going to put gas in it after work, the floater is not floating and being accurate so I assume it may not be in the right position like you said.

It's certainly possible. It happened to me when I replaced my fuel filter.

Just for reference, the assembly should be in this exact position:

i had the same issue about having a 1/4 showing and running out of gas. i think my car is not getting fuel from the passenger side over to the driver side tank correctly. i think there is something wrong with the jet pump that pulls the gas over from one tank to the next.

U can also try to reset the fuel gauge, very easy, the 2 buttons on the right of the gas gauge by the cluster, hold them both in for about 5 seconds your see the needle jump to where it needs to be...

I tried this it did nothing what would be the next step my dad says he is 100 percent he did it correct could it be the leveler was not working on the used junkyard assembly I bought It was sitting on a shelf for awhile I assume, but the gauge worked when I put fuel in it, I have not put a full tank in it yet should I try this.

It's not just the position,

you got to make sure all the tubes/hoses and the jet return inside the tank are all are pointed in a way so they aren't interfering with the float. A few of those guys swivel around
