Default heavily rusted fuel pump

i have a fuel leak when i fill the tank. i looked at the fuel pump, its rusted really bad. couldn't believe all the moisture and dirt which had settled on top of the tank. i dont know how to proceed; i have to remove the fuel pump to drop the tank and inspect for the leak but after looking at that im wondering if i should just get a new tank all together
thanks ,bryce

You've posted multiple times this same question. I think it's best to get a new tank, and all components related to the rust. If you continue this way most likely the rust will work it's way into your fuel injection parts. Causing more costly damage, and other headaches for you.

yes i have. But i dont have a garage and i cant just pay someone to rip it all apart and wait for parts and all that goes with it. and the first thing i see is the top of the fuel pump rusted. is there a seal there which ill destroy trying to pry it off? id hate to have to spend 400 on a used tank. so while it would be easiest to take it to a dealer and have a gas tank and fuel neck put on , its not an option. im trying to make the best decisions possible. and every time i post, i get input from someone else, like you ! thank you ! hopefully someone can tell me if there a seal there? im not seeing it for parts

The fuel pump assembly will always have a seal to the tank.

See below: I assume they should just sell the gasket alone.
If not contact Jeff Lange on here. I'm sure he will help you out if the part is sold separately. He is a Lexus parts specialist.

Are you saying the tank is rusted from the outside as you have not pulled the pump and looked inside?

Buy a $30 amazoo boroscope for your phone and pull the pump & sensor. Inspect the tank from the inside.

There two "issues" mentioned here :

1) fuel leaking from what I'd assume is from a hole in the filler neck.
2) rusty fuel pump? Not necessarily an issue unless your fuel pump needs replacing OR you're leaking FROM the seal between the fuel pump seal and the tank.

Which is it OR both?

thanks for answering!! when i bought the car i filled the car all the way up, it stinks of gas. next full tank its leaking down the driverside rear wheel well puddling parallel with the tire. ive not filled it since and i havnt smelled gas or had a leak. i have multiple codes P0456 P00441,P0455. for "incorrect purge flow" gross leak no flow" and "very small leak". the stealership wanted me to give them 900 DOLLARS for canister vent valve which i just ordered from rock auto for 50.

I dont know where the leak is coming from. the tank isnt rusty or rusted looking. when i finally pulled the seat to start looking closer and popped open the seal to inspect the fuel pump which was heavily corroded. not the tank at all, just the rim around the fuel pump .

I have been contemplating pulling the tank down and inspecting for the leak. unfortunately i cant afford to have the parts on hand so once i find it ill have to put the thing back together. ive posted multiple times and i haven't really gotten any help, like is the fillerneck known to do this, and if so what is the remedy? replace a single line or get the whole assembly off ebay? id buy the fillerneck its cheap enough, i men where else would it be leaking from? so, back to this post-i cant pull up the fuel pump without the gasket and clips
thank you!!

P.S....i dont know what to do with the full pump situation, the screws are rusted rotted right to the thing they will never come out. do i use a grinder carefully? chisel it up, which will damage it? i dont know how to proceed.

I think those 8 screws are aluminum. They probably will just break off from the heads. If they do then you'll have to get the remaining stud out. If I remember correctly they are about 1/2" long. So they should protrude past the thickness of the tank. Giving you some small leverage to remove the studs with some small vise grips. Spray some PB blaster on the screws the night before. Should ease to loosen up the rust some.

Yeah, normally I've say PB Blaster and add heat...but heat around the fuel tank, NOPE! LOL
