Well.... it's not really chrome to begin with (it's painted with some sort of ceramic silver paint) and that's the issue.

Same thing happened with mine after getting my engine bay detailed - some cleaner spray chemical the detailer used screwed up the intake tube paint finish. I boiled it down to three options:

1) completely strip the intake tube and polish the metal. Didn't like that option because you can't always tell what the metal will look like under the paint and it's hard to keep polished once done.

2) repaint the intake tube with similar colored paint. Didn't do that because I didn't think I could find exactly the color and didn't want to use the 'chrome' color engine paint... might look OK, but I didn't want to risk it.

3) paint the intake tube a new color. I chose to do this one and match the intake to my TRD STB. Stipped it down first and sanded it. Taped off the air sensor and ends of the tube so as not to paint inside. Primered it with high temp primer, then sprayed with color. Finished off with a couple of coats of high temp clear lacquer.

Good luck!

its a tranny cooler, permacool i think. hayden and fluidyne don't look like that, but there are others out there.

fireballs, i would also sand it down and paint another color. there are spray paints labeled metallic that really do look metallic, if you like that route. i've seen the chrome cans but haven't tried it, and it's only gonna cost you a few bucks anyways(if you still want chrome).
