Question

Hi:

A dealer installed a spoiler on my GS430. The spoiler has a brake light in it. I asked them to disable the light that is in the cabin of the card, but they told me that its impossible to do because it will cause a warning light on to be constantly on.

I think they are just looking for a quick way out. Has anybody disabled the center brake light before? How did you do it?

Thanks.

Some others on here will have the specific part numbers needed but basically it costs close to $600, if my memory serves me right, to have the 3rd interior light disabled. My current GS4 has the spoiler and interior so when I ordered my GS430, I specifically told them factory installed spoiler because I don't want the 3rd interior brake light or have to deal with getting it yanked out. I would suggest that you complain to the dealership or service manager about the 3rd brake light if your car is brand new. If the dealership is nice maybe they'll eat the $600 and try to make you a happy customer. Good luck, but the dealership is right, unplugging the light will set off the warning light on the dash.

With labor and parts, I was just quoted $684.34! That replaces the panel and also includes the new relay.

I just unhooked the relay, but you do get that light on the dash. At this point, its better than having that brake light light up...

Lightbulb you need this part...

This is what i got from reading the past post about this... You will need the rear brake light module sensor, part number 8937030160.

my solutions was about 8cents worth of black electrical tape. I cut the tape to fit perfectly over the exposed red plastic. Obviously the light is still there but you cannot see at all, even at night. Just a suggestion. I would rather spend that $600 on springs and shocks.

Lightbulb that is even better

my idea was to tint the rear windshield and have the guy aslo cut a piece of the film to cover the red lense.

i got the idea when i saw a guy tinted his car dark in the rear.
