My grandpa has a 2001 Lexus GS300. Both remotes are out of batteries, so he manually uses the key. Sometimes when he turns the car off, gets out and shuts the door, all the windows and sunroof open up unexplainably.
Everywhere I've looked on this forum points to the remote, but it is inoperable. On a side note, the front passenger door does not unlock and lock consistently. It will lock and unlock when i use the key on the passenger side lock, but it will not lock when I use the key on the driver's side lock. I'm also pretty sure the auto down feature does not work when he turns the key to unlock the door.
Does anyone have a clue what could be going wrong here? Would resetting the car by unhooking the battery help? Are there any other resets that could be performed?
First off , you need to fix your broken key case/ dead key battery issue. The key could be giving off a faint signal that might be interfearing with the security/ wireless access ecu. You might have some sort of electrical issue either a short in the wireless computer or in a door jam shorting out. Unhooking the battery probably won't do anything for your situation. The door lock issue might be either a bad door lock actuator or a possible broken cable. Might need to get a electrical diag done. Were about in florida do you live?
He lives in Daytona, brings his car to Orlando (where I live) to Lexus of Orlando. Besides for the remote battery, it seems like this is a job for the Lexus people to look into.
Have you tried disconnecting the batty and see if problem persists? Perhaps set up options for opening door? IIRC, key can open windows/roof when turned and kept there. Contact cleaner tried?
