Upgrading from 2nd gen steering wheel to 3rd
Hey sorry if this subject has already been discussed. I tried searching to no avail. I just picked up a 2002 Gs300 Sport design and while checking out the car my mechanic and I tested everything except to see if the horn worked; which of course it doesn't. We checked the fuses and they were fine, when I pressed the horn there wasn't a signal. My Gs is black on black with the black wood and I was thinking about upgrading to a 3rd generation steering wheel to match the black wood.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience doing this and could help lead me in the right direction and warn me about anything to look out for.
Thanks in advance

Well, i have this picture saved. It's not mine, nor i did it to my gs. But i remember reading regarding this conversion. I remember the owner of this pic said you need to swap airbag detonation "block" from your gs2 steering wheel airbag to a new airbag. He wrote it's easy as unbolting it and bolting it to a new airbag. How safe it is.. i have no idea, but hey, it's still a grain of information for you
I covered this in my build with an IS wheel. Not sure if the GS is any different. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...reboot-11.html

It was covered quite well on Kyle’s build, and many others on the web. However the only thing I haven’t came across yet on any other modern steering wheel install is I kept the weight that’s on the inside of the wheel where the spiral cable or clock spring is. What I did to keep it is i used a file and filed away where it needed to be filed to let the clock spring through and I’m now working on the wiring for illumination and swc.
Today I broke out the soldering iron and dove head first on wiring the steering wheel controls. Since my head unit is an aftermarket Eonon Android 10.1 inch double DIN head unit it made wiring the steering wheel control a breeze. Lol, well it’s a breeze if you spend hours of researching wiring diagrams and schematics. I found that you really only need two wires one for each side of the wheel controls, and grounds to make the controls work.
