Funny. I ended my correspondence with the same observation:
"If you can call me or direct me to something that explains how you assert that 12.1 data is available for a 1999 Lexus GS400 Generation 1 Navigation, then please do so. You seem to be the only Lexus Dealership on the planet that has this....which is reason for suspicion."

i really hope I'm wrong and there is an update for gen1 owners.
Well, there are updates...but only to 2004. Not sure how much more map you get from 98-00 to 04?
I'd give up all the POI data in the world for more map data. I'd guess Lexus has little to no incentive to put much resource to improving Generation 1 maps!!

Yea that's the one off ebay that I was mentioning. Its from Lexus of North Miami. From what they've told me, they managed to find a way to compress the entire version onto a USB. They had to remove some of the symbols and icons to allow for the additional freeways and roads that were newly built and that, along with many other reasons why they were able to compress such a big file to the USB and make it fit on our HD. When I think of it, it must have taken them hours to get this done. From my understanding, there is a USB port on our units. Three members on here (one of them an audio/ICE guy) had mentioned that he had seen it and even plugged a flash drive in there.
I mentioned a group buy with them however they never did get back to me on that. I would contact that seller again. Just remember though, this is a dealership and not just one individual selling stuff, so they may not get back to you for a while, if ever.
