Default Navigation maps update

I'm wondering if anyone has had their Navigation database updated yet. If you have a 2013, the last entry was in 2011 or 2012 depending upon when you took delivery.

The latest Navigation Data is released each year in late Oct/early Nov. When you look at the Nav date in any Lexus you will generally see the year prior to you Model year, ie., an 2013 would be '12 because it was built with the then current flash (DVD in 2009's and prior). To get the very latest information you ought to wait till November to schedule the update.

The update in October/November 2012 was delayed until January 2013. For those of us who took delivery of their cars in September thru December of 2012, you have a 2011 database. Almost 3 years old...

I was told I'd have to pay to update my maps, but there is a menu option in my 2014 to update them, so I'm wondering if I'll be able to do it myself via a usb stick or something.

I believe in addition to the stick the car needs to be hooked up to a laptop at the dealership. It did in the 2010-2012 models.

Thanks for the specifics of '12 year delay. The menu control is used by the tech when he uses the updated info from parts. With the older DVD based system you could install it easily, anybody know of an aftermarket/resale
version of the flash data?

I had a 2006 Avalon with Navigation. There was a DVD player in the trunk with the map DVD inside. I bought an aftermarket updated DVD from a member of the Toyota forum. It never worked.. I think that SW13 is correct in that the vehicle must be updated by the dealer.

The old DVD systems you could update yourself no problem. Updated them myself in the 04LS and 03ES a couple times. Just insert the DVD, push a button and its done. These were OEM DVDs though.

The new systems however, the hard drive systems Lexus has made it so the dealer HAS to do it because it requires their laptop being hooked up and a series of long codes input. I called around when I had the 10ES and the cheapest quote I found was $169 for the data, $200 to install. Some quote for the install were as high as $350...suffice it to say the maps data on my ES went un-updated lol.

Same story with my 13GS, mine came with the 2012 maps and we have a new highway here that isn't on there. Called around...cheapest quote was $169 for the maps $200 for the install. No reason to think it would be different for a 13 or 14 ES.

Sucks, but it is what it is. To the dealer's credit one guy walked me though it...its not a simple process. This is a blame Lexus not the dealer situation IMHO.

$200 is a rip off.I've heard it takes less than an hour to download.

Less than an hour to download, but then it takes 30-45 minutes to go through the process with the system to initialize it, enter all the codes...etc. At $135 an hour, $200 is about 1.5 hours...

If you check your dealers web site for Service Specials you can usually save a few bucks on a visit for the update.

Anyone know if a Toyota Dealership can update the nav, and if it would be any cheaper?
