Sell it or keep it?
Hey all - I'm in a debate with myself ( and my wife occasionally) about putting money in to my GS. Just replaced rear rotors / brakes / calipers, front brake pads ( needs front rotors still). Probably going to need front suspension components soon, will have that checked next oil change. I also have the dampness on the drivers side due to the leaking AC box, I've read all abou it and know it to be pretty pricey to fix. Beyond that, some smaller items that are more annoying than anything like:
The GS is a 2000 with 122K on it, I'm the second owner. The first owners had ALL and I mean ALL required maint done. Literally 4-5 pages of service from the lex dealer. I don't owe anything on the car and I really do love it, just seems like I'm spending ( or will spend) more than a normal amount on owning this car.
What would you do?
- Radio display numbers out
- AC Servo Damper noise
- Unusually loud motor for telescoping steering wheel

You can fix the three items for almost free if you do it yourself and you use a search on how in these forums. You can do the brakes yourself for less than 150
Are you sure the ax problem is not a plugged drain tube? If it is it's an easy fix
Do a cbest at the dealer to turn off the automatic exit on the tilt and telescope (45 dollars)

@handoverfi - I'd buy something else used, as I mentioned I own this one outright, kbb has it somewhere around 8500.
@sam12345 - I'll do the rotors myself, with shipping they're 210 for the fronts from Sewell. If you're suggesting using aftermarket OEM equivelant, I'm all for saving money but was under the impression most folks were against that? Have hear horror stories about going with cheaper parts.
Anyway, as far as the 3 items I mentioned, I've seen the fixes in the forum. That's really part of my questions, normal maint seems like brakes / tires / etc. These other items that you can DIY, is that what I should expect for the life of the car? As an example,my wife has a decked out pilot, the thing just doesn't need to be fooled with. I'm all for 'normal' stuff but fix this fix that, seems to be never ending.
All that said, the car is really fun to drive, looks great etc. Mine is in great shape, could use some cosmetics but all in all is sharp. Seems most folks just accept this as normal, that's cool too. It's nice not to spend every weekend fooling with your car.

Beats a 500 a month payment
On the brakes, use centric solid rotors (very good and cheap) and use akobono brake pads (it's what nearly all Japanese OEM use)

Pads fourth one from top

Keep it. You get what you put in. Remember that. Buy Lexus quality parts, and you'll be cruising stress free in a Lexus quality flagship. What more can I say? Lol. Keep it my friend. Don't want a new Ford Taurus or Chevy Impala now do you????? Lol

I've been contemplating the same thing and i have to agree with everyone else on this one, keep it!! In comparison to most vehicles out there not only is it a reliable car, the interior is nicer and more comfortable when compared to a lot of newer cars out there.. trust me, i've search, but then again that's just my two cents

I think I knew what the answer would be before I posted , thanks for the responses. Maybe I need to figure out what my $$$ tolerance is, when I exceed it it's time to sell!
