Just bought this car (1998 gs400) and of course, when i buy a car it can never be perfect. When i roll or move period my car starts to make a grinding noise coming from under the car in the drivrshaft area in the rear. I dont know what it could be. Is this a common problem? When i drive faster it gets louder. When i stop it goes away completely. This is a motion dependent sound not rpm dependent.

Care to provide any insight as to the drivetrain issue? Any experience?

 

Possibly the rear brake rotors? Unless you're sure its coming from the driveshaft area

 

Rotors, pads, calipers, or brake shield bent and rubbing on rotor

 

I took it to the dealership mechanic so they can fix it. They were originally just goong to replace the ac compressor ( you know how lexus belch out hot air with the compressor off even when set to cool vent) but now the grinding noise will be checked on as well as a steering related issue where i have a loud creaking noise with any steering movement + empty ps reservoir every couple/few days + 10-20 seconds of ps loss after wot operation.. I like hooning new cars to weed out weak/failing components. I had to break this car for it to work.
