Default Trunk light question

Does anyone know if the trunk light in our cars always stays on, or only turns on when the trunk is open?

Its only supposed to turn on when the trunk is open. But u gotta check yours specifically because you mite possibly have an issue with your car.

I'm thinking of putting a 7W cree LED in there, but I want to make sure its only on when trunk is open, otherwise it'll fail shortly.

SO many ways to check man. Get in side, have one [you trust] close it and look. Put a camera in there, phone as said etc... If it stays on, check the switch, its in the locking mechanism (on the butt, not the lid)
