Default RPMS Hanging

When i'm driving and i give my car gas to pick up speed to maybe 35 or 40 mph the problem is when i let off the gas my rpm's still hang around 1500 to 2000 rpms and this is without my foot on the gas at all.

It has been doing this for a weeks now and i'm not sure why. It's basically like no matter whether my foot is on the gas or i'm whether i'm coasting(around town) my rpm's are still up and it doesn't feel right.

Basically it always seems to be around the 2000 rpm mark no matter whether i'm going 10 mph or 40 mph.

Any ideas what the problem is because it doesn't feel smooth at all like it used too?

Throttle maybe stuck. Clean the throttle body and see if it helps

The tranny fluid level is fine...................The color is right and there is no burnt smell to it at all

Does this RPM thing sound like a major problem?

Yes. Could be transmission related. That would be $$$

Could a bad oil control valve be causing this? Because I was going to replace it but the check engine light went off and has been off for awhile so i figured i was ok....but now this is happening.

If its tranny related, that isn't cheap. Hopefully its sensor related. Have a mechanic check it out before you do further damage.
