Question ECU replacement and compatability for my GS300 98,and general issues

hello fellow friends, i have problem, went to mechanic, for diagnostics, he told me my Engine Control Unit is not responding, however he was able to pull the Codes through Transmission CU. My car starts and is drivable, but lately my rpms jumping at low Revolutions, and acceleration behaves weird.
i pulled my ECU

part number {89661-3A420}, was looking on ebay the dont have yet exact ECU, but they have
3A550, 3A551, and similar but no 3A420, it says that they will fit GS300 98, 99, 2000,
But is it correct, and what do i need to expect when i get ECU from ebay or internet, will i need to reprogram my keys or what surprises should i expect. how to find a right ECU replacement for me Thank you so much in advance..

As long as the white connectors are the same (different sizes on 01+) any of them will work, they are interchangeable.. But yes you will need a locksmith that has the toyota reflash tool to reprogram the immobilizer multilink ecu in the car to talk to the new engine ecu.

It's rare that the ECU goes bad, does it run fine sometimes and not others? From what I've seen in the past an ecu issue would be consistent in the problem it causes.

I would probably get a second opinion from another mechanic if can before you go through the cost and hassle of an ecu change.

I have a guaranteed working 3A551 that came out of my car when I did the motor swap if you end up going that route and are interested.

thanks, man, i just looked at my ECU and there's seems to be some kinda brown oily substance, probably causing shortage or somthing..

ill try to clean it and see if that helps. sorry for being total noob, but can someone explain me what those sockets are , especially marked red, or where can i obtain such an information..
thanks.

Get a acid brush and some 91% alcohol to clean it up.

Then open it up and clean it up there. Warm it up with a hair dryer to dry it before install.

Look at the connector too, clean it as well.

Why don't know, but clean it up good. I have been an engineering technician for 25+ years now. Clean it well.

it is either a leaking capacitor or an overheated transistor

cleaning is not going to help the actual ruined component
