Default Throttle Hesitation?

Hey there friends,

I’m new to the site and was hoping to get some help diagnosing a problem with my wife’s GS300. (’01 with 74k miles and no CEL on) The problem we are having is what seems to be a hesitation when I punch the throttle. I will be on a surface street doing, say 30mph, then floor the throttle and the car hesitates greatly to get up to speed. The RPM’s go up and the engine revs, but the car fails to accelerate---until I slowly back off the throttle, then it seems to "catch" then accelerates, albeit slowly. I have searched past threads and apologize if this is a redundant post, but no other searches I found seemed to describe exactly what our car is experiencing. Could this be the notorious “drive by wire” issue, and if so, what can be done to rectify?

Thanks so much for any help!!!

Your car has an electronic throttle control. That's normal.

Your problem is this:

What you need is this:

In case you haven't already, check your air filter, clean out your throttle body.

Is your car throwing any codes? How recent it your tune up?

HAHA! not sure the Mrs. will go for the 2 seater...will perform your recommendations and get back to you. The CEL is not on, but will hook it up to OBD scanner later to see what gives...Not too sure about the tune up, as we just got the car from her parents.

Throttle position sensor? I'm having the same issue and that's basically what I've narrowed it down to.

Use some CRC Mass Airflow Cleaner on your Mass A/F Sensor

My 01 GS430 was doing the same and i did what BossGS4 did. Remove the MAF sensor and clean it really well and you will be fine. G'luck!
