Overheating Problem with my 98 GS400
1. My a/c has always blown a little warmer than it should ( about 2years). So last week I decided to add some refrigerant (R134). The a/c blew cold for a couple of days then back to just cool. I then added more refrigerant and now the a/c blow hot with no cooling at all.
2. An a/c tech checked it out with a gauge, and the low side looked fine, but the high side was going crazy (up and down). He then released some refrigerant from the system, but the a/c still blew hot and I was told I need a new compressor.
3. Now after driving around for a day I realized my fans were not turning on and my car would overheat. Replaced the thermostat/ rad. cap and coolant flush.
Still the fans do not come on. Even unplugged the radiator temp sensor and they still do not come on. Also bleed the cooling system. When I try to turn the a/c on full blast to get the fan to run it turns on for 2 seconds and turns off repeatedly along with the compressor.
I have no clue what to do, and would like to know what might be them issue before taking it to the shop. I can diy the compressor, but what can I do to get my fans running so my baby stops overheating.
Any imput will be greatly appreciated.

That is wierd, the same exact thing happened to me about a month ago...i got my AC re-charged, and my fans stopped coming on.
i unplugged both harnesses for the fans, disconnected the battery, re-connected everything and they started working normal again. its been a month with no issues. i have no idea what caused it

Fans operate with a temp sensor, usually in the radiator. There is also a relay, either could be faulty, the ecm tells the fans when to operate. The 134a systems can not be topped off with refrigerant like an old r-12, the amt is precise. To much, will not cool.just like to little, If the fans are not working, ac will not cool. Sounds like you have a refrigerant leak, compounded by a faulty fan system. If fans do not work, high side pressure will force refrigerant out pop off valve. This is not a DIY, you will need a competent shop, an honest one. Repair fans first, then service ac with correct equipment. If you are luck you will not have a leak.
