Do you have something that might get stolen from your engine? lol. it is pretty hard to actually steal an engine, but if they opened your hood, wouldnt your alarm sound? That alone would be enough to scare me away.

Well if your alarm goes off all they have to do is pop your hood and dissconnect your battary without a hoodlock. They do this within seconds. Then they close your hood and come back later to strip your car or tow it away.

Here is a link to CL member "Bananags" hood lock he did.

like sharp-ls said, once thieves open your hood, they can

1) cut the wire to the alarm siren so that even if the alarm is going off, you can't hear a thing.

2) disconnect the battery so the alarm is inoperable.

3) start the car from your engine

4) steal parts from the hood (ie: hid, headlights, anything not bolted down)

you never know nowadays. if theres a market for something, thieves will find a way to take it. i'd rather be safe than sorry . also, i live near a neighborhood full of chronics and crackheads

thanks for the link sharp-ls

I understand all of that. But if I am home, and i hear my car alarm go off,and then it turns off without me doing anything, i will know that **** is happening. When im out of town, i rely on the home security. I realize this is not the same for everybody. In public places its pretty diff.

Default thieves

Most will cut the battery cable from beneath the car before even attempting to open the hood, or door.

"Most will cut the battery cable from beneath the car before even attempting to open the hood, or door"

not sure what car you are talking about, not on a lexus

you are talking the the alarm expert here, some will try to short your signal light, but most alarm has saparate fuse on the blinker, (short the brake light will blow the alarm circuit, (only happen on cheap alarm, or bad design)

even you are at home, if you have your tv or music on or sleeping, or raining, you not gonna hear anything, you can't pay attention to every alarm sound all day and all night?

Some thief will try to trigger your alarm several times to get your attention, after the third time, you will assume false alarm and not come out, that is when they come

also, did you know that your factory alarm sux? it can be turn off from the outside of the car with a screw driver and no alarm will trigger?

in short, you want to make it "harder" for the thief to get, then get a "real" hood lock, most aftermarket hood locks are sux and can be pull off easily. if you don't realize already, hood lock is one of the most important part of a good alarm system

=)

The second my alarm sounds, i can hear it, whether im asleep or not, whether im watching tv or not... I hear it. And if it goes on more than once and no one is there, then i dont just leave it and forget about it. So your wrong about that.

But everything else is right. I didnt think it was so easy to break in. Is it the actual driving away thats so hard?

Cool

I use to have an alarm with a hood lock and pick proof medeco lock mounted under the dash to open and close it. But the lock sometimes would jam and until it was brought back to the alarm company it could not be opened! The bottom line is they really want your car they are going to get it. That's why we have insurance.

I had this problem before Toog4me, and my solution was a fuel cut-off switch. It's basically a switch that you connect to your fuel sending line. At night or whenever you're going to leave your car for a long period of time, just hit the switch and your car will still be there, unless they have a Tow-Truck! Hide the switch of course, and don't tell anyone where it is located, not even your nearest relative. Trust me on that! Now some people on here will tell you that if they want your car, they're going to get it, but from my point of view and from experience, my car was never stolen since. A few have tried, but to no avail. Hope that helps, because I've recommended to alot of others and I get many kudos for even suggesting it to them.

Our car is to limited of production. If they stole it who is going to buy the parts? I was looking for some nice wheels real cheap however.

So it completely cuts off the fuel? Is there a way you can use a special key or something and hide that? Because as soon as they find the switch, then they can just flip it on.

Another thing: Is there a way to limit the cars tires so they can only move like 2 or 3 feet? That way, after the thief has tried to move the car onto the flatbed, it just wont move? This seems like the most theft deferent thing, no?

Our cars are not in limited production. What gave you that idea?
The parts will sell very quickly for sure.

Compared to a Camry it is a very limited production. If your car gets into an accident more than likely you are going to bring it to a good body shop or dealer. Do you think places like this will buy stolen parts to repair the damage? Could happen but I think I have a better chance of winning the Lottery. How many people here have gotten their car Stolen and stripped? I bet not to many. Even so, I bet they did not strip the car to much. The thief's are going to steal cars that they can bring to a chop shop and get quick money for like a Mustang.
