Im at 3k at 80, and i just changed the coolant temp sending unit to see if the comp was thinking that the car wasnt warmed up, i pullled the ecu-b1 fuse and it seemed too reset everything, after this im not sure what else i can do besided replace the ecu, its locking up, def. in 5th gear, seems like it has different rear gears. When i bought the car saturday, it did have slotted and drilled rotors all around, which makes me wonder who does that to a lexus? someone who was trying to go real fast i guess.

Ok, so i just went to a lone highway and did a 0-cut off run. It is a complete monster to 120 or so, then it cuts off. The speed limiter is engaged at 120 or so in 5th gear at around 5200 rpm. Now im at a complete loss. 60mph is around 2400rpm, 80 is 3200rpm or so. I have complete lock-up of torque conveter, and i can shift from 4th, which is 33000rpm at 60-65mph. WTF????

Oh, and i should say that when hammered from a stop, it spins for about 10 feet, then converter locks up after 3k or so, then it just ignites the tires to the point that traction control kicks in till 2nd gear. I think this was a road racing car, cause it is faster than my 2001 SS to 120mph. DAMN!! i think i bought someones racecar! not what i wanted to do!

If torque converter locks at about 3k, it have a aftermarket high stall torque converter.
what tires and sizes you using?
seems like you have a different rear end, got LSD?
IIRC 98 GS4 doesn't cut off at 120... I did 130+

Yeah, your car's last owner did quite a few things to it I suspect.

you know any mods on the car? pix?

From the sound of it I GUARANTEE that you have a 3000rpm stall high performance torque converter AND the 3.73 LSD rear end (from the '93-'95 Toyota Supra Turbo). I have these two very mod items and then some. My car reacts just as you mentioned but IIRC the top speed should be MECHANICALLY LIMITED at around 128mph due to the steeper rear gears; where as stock it is ELECTRONICALLY LIMITED at around 147mph. I am not much of a top speed driver so as long as I can make my car fast in the range of 0-120mph I am happy.

If your car is in fact around 3000rpms at 80mph AND you are definitely shifting into 5th gear then without a doubt you DO HAVE the 3.73 gearing (up from the stock 3.26 gearing).

Also, if it seems like your car is very aggressive off the line and you "feel" a converter lock-up around 3000rpms then you also have a high stall torque converter. If you search these forums you will find that this is a pretty common pair of mods...expensive, but many do it that don't intend on going forced induction; it REALLY wakes the car up!

One suggestion...the previous owner SHOULD have a standalone transmission cooler (looks like a little radiator) if you do have a high stall torque converter. That TC REALLY heats up the tranny fluid and the #1 reason why trannys fail is due to excessive heat. Check your car out up front by the radiator...perhaps you have a little tranny cooler up there as well. If you don't get one ASAP as people have had many problems down the line with the mods you have WITHOUT running a tranny cooler. FYI, the tranny coolers are only about $60 bucks or so. B&M makes nice ones...that's what I got. GL

So the first thing i need to do is get a tranny cooler if it doesnt have one then, Im pretty satisfied that the guy modded the heck outta it, as far as tire size, I think its the 225/65/16 or whatever the car came with stock. as far as looks, it looks just like a black 98 gs400. If the guy would have just told me that he did that too the car i would have been fine with it, just would have been nice to know about it instead of me flipping out thinking something is wrong.
