Default Steering making whining noise

Hey guys i just noticed this a few weeks ago but i totally forgot about it. When pulling out of the drivway or driving slow in a parking lot while turning the wheel the GS makes a whining noise. Could this be the Rack or my 152k mile original Fluid in there?

I would definitely change the fluid. It won't hurt in any case. If it still makes the same noise after the fluid change, maybe the pump is on its way out...

umm check to see if youre low on fluid first.. (power steering fluid).. the sound is usually from air being in your system (low fluid, or leak..)

Change your fluid man! Mine was starting to make the same noise last month and i only have 98k miles on my car. Needless to say the fluid was disgusting! It was black and there was debri's and what not in it. The sound wen't away after changing it out. Easy DIY goodluck!

I had a similar problem and it wasn't the steering wheel/assembly at all. It was a bent dust/rain shield. It make the worst screech I've ever heard. Got it fixed at the Lexus Dealer for $50. It was completely worth it. No more old-car sound.

the power steering pump usually goes for $130 at the parts store... obviously more for OEM

as far as changing fluid... this way is by far better than using a turkey baster...

Thanks all you guys for the information i appreciate it. I have replaced the diff fluid, the tranny fluid, the brake fluid, everything is nice and clean besides the power steering. It has 152k miles on it so its about that time.

My thoughts as well. You definitely don't want to here the pump whining due to low fluid, you'll burn it up after a while. Good luck.
