Talking Warm hellos from this new guy :)

Hi Everyone,

So this is my first thread here on club lexus. My name is Mikhail and I currently drive an 05 Corolla. I'm thinking of upgrading and giving the car to my brother. I don't know much about private party buying, so hopefully you guys could give me some insight. I was looking for an IS300 but this GS300 certainly caught my eye. It's listed at $8900 with 101k miles. I've done my research on kbb and edmunds. The car is valued at $7500 by KBB while edmunds value it at $6972.
I'm thinking $6972 would be a great price but he's listed it at $8900 and I don't want to come off as one of those annoying lowballers. Well here's the posting..http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...050777746.html I thank you guys in advance for all the advice.

-Mikhail

overrall it looks to be in pretty good shape....could use a interior cleaning especially the carpet but the paint looks to be in good shape.

see if he has receipts for all the work he said he had done. not sure why if he is using IS wheels he didn't put the center cap on them. BTW i wouldn't give him 9k for it though if he has actually had all the maintenance . maybe 7k

why all those pics and NO engine pics?

P.S. only color i would ever buy if i didnt buy a black one.....wished they had continued the color past the 2000 model

Just tell him you are selling over kbb prices. Should sale no more than that and he might reconsider.

If that was my car and i was selling it, i would not take one penny under 8 thousand i wouldnt take a penny under 7500 for my gs with 151k miles on it. Just because the economy has gone to **** doesnt mean these cars are going to be free. Thats a good deal and it looks awesome, the color combo on it is very unique. Look around, where else can you buy a car like that for 8 thousand dollars, maybe a 2005 focus with 75 thousand miles lol.

They're 2GS wheels, and he probably didn't put them back on because maybe he couldn't powder coat them.

Did anyone else notice that this thing looks total 4x4?

That passenger rear wheel looks totally whack. Looks like inward toe and positive camber.

Don't buy that car for his price!!! Get engine pics, receipts, and see how much he'll come down on the price.
Wheels look poo.
My advice, move on to a GS400 or a nice IS300. Plenty of those out there.

I just have a hunch that this one is no good!!!!

Eyeballing it a couple of things look off

1) the steering wheel - I would assume accident with airbag deployment until proved otherwise
2) the wheels look like IS wheel or the tires are really skinny (225/45 17?)
3) any replacements on the shocks / affecting ride height? Seems like the GS has its butt in the air

Don't be afraid to offer him what the car is worth. It's not your fault he is asking too much. Print out the KBB and Edmunds values and show him. He already knows. Start there. I just picked up a very nice '02 GS300 SportDesign with 90k for $9200. Also, pay $45 for a one-month Autocheck subscription to check out any car you are looking at. Similar to Carfax only much cheaper. Dealers use it. It doesn't show everything, but it has helped me rule out several cars I was considering before I wasted my time looking at them.

Also looks like the car belongs to a smoker. The dirt looks like ashes but could just be dirt/dust.
