Default cntr console with speakers?

Installed my MS8 and now want to get a full 3way center channel. Anyone convert their center console to hold speakers? or maybe the center center console (between backseat and center console, along the driveshaft)?

Anyhow, I need to either put a full range in there or something better. it has to be 6.5" or maybe a little smaller. Advice straight from the engineer. read the recommend tweeter locations (for front and read).

the best place for the center channel would be the front center, not the middle of the car to setup a proper sound stage. possibly removing the front vents, but that would probably be too much. I would make a custom center channel in the dash facing up...its been awhile since I've done a system for sound quality...but staging shouldn't have changed that much.

x2

where the ML system has its center channel is the best place....

i just unplugged mine though, even with my aftermarket audio it sounds like **** due to no factory processor.i replaced my old, blown ML center speaker with a diamond D662 tweeter but since im not using a processor (it was a waste for me to get a processor to correctly power one speaker) for my new setup it overloads it with power (it feeds power from both front speakers) and it soon blew the replacement center speaker up so now its just unplugged right there

the best place for one is pictured in post #5, sam,you were even a participant of this post about adding a center speaker to a sub 2001 model

btw i NEVER mess with mine anymore as the first one i had was cracked and will look like this, the surround is semi cheap but not something i wanna do all the time

Yep, I asked the question about the center channel and I remembered it...that is the last resort because now I have an 8 channel processor and want something more substantial... something like a 6.5" mids or possibly 3 way...thus, i have to resort to look elsewhere to put my center channel.

I don't think the oem center channel can accomondate something that large.

usually 6.5 is too large for a center channel. The biggest we used in our SQ comp cars was a 4" or (2) 3.5" and we used an 8 ohm speaker with resistors so it wasn't bright. Center Channel should never be that bright.

I might be able to get away with 4" but I'd still want the bigger speakers... The MS8 takes care of the cross points but the best sound comes when the center matches the left and right front speakers (transparency of the center). I've tested 2.5" PPI mid, 3.5" Critical Mass and 6.5" Focal/PPI and both 6.5" sounded great and blended really well. maybe I'll do my own cutout... it's just gonna look ugly (I do have a shallow 6.5" that might fit there).

it wouldn't be too hard to make a flush grill in the dash. Thin wood and grille material, you can make it blend pretty nice.

This a may seem like odd place but making a fiber glass housing on the top side where the garage door alarm is located and angle the speaker to the glass and have it bounce back to the cabinet

Got a chance to look at the spot... there is no room, even for the shallow speaker. I guess I will look around again. I'm not sure about putting it up there LOL, I kinda want to hide the speakers.
