Exclamation 2GS door lock problem. Help!!

So, i have a 2000 gs400 paltinum series. i was trying to unlock my door the other day and only three doors opened. The front passenger door didn't open.

So i brought the car to lexus dealership in Houston and they told me the motor is broken. And they asked $730 for replacing it.

Is this price normal? Or anyone has any other idea what should I do with my car? I'm also thinking about finding the motor from local junkyard, is this a good idea?

To CL members from Houston, anyone knows where good junkyards are? Thanks for helping.

I too have the same issue, but it's both doors on the passenger side. I called the dealership just to get a price on the parts, and it was $350 for the front and $150 for the rear. So your price sounds about right with labor and all getting raped by the dealership.

But I wouldn't recommend getting a used one at the junkyard, because this is a common problem with these cars, so getting a used one will be a 50/50 chance it could also be bad. If your a handy person, there's a DIY thread on replacing the motor, you'll save alot.

There is a place in the northside called tesco auto parts, I'm not sure if they are still in business as they had a minor fire in the building. Google their number and check. BTW, stay away from the dealer as they take advantage!

So do you think i should get the part from the dealership? Or do u know any websites who sells 2gs parts? I tried www.wholesaleparts.com but they don't have one.. Yeah. That's also what scares me from junkyards. Coz sometimes they sell junks,,

Thanks for your info, i'll google it up. Yeah dealeship sometimes kills about the price. But i had problem with engine check. It shown P0441 & P0446.. I brought my car to HCS automotive (louetta/kuykendahl) and they couldn't solve my problem. But the dealership did.

check out the DIY on the door lock actuator...there shouldn't be a reason you are paying a few hundred per door to fix this...

If your handy look for the DIY. This will save you hundreds of dollars. You can buy the motor on ebay and replace it. Just read through the DIY. It has a lot of info in there. I did my driver side door around 6 months ago and its still working fine.

No I personally wouldn't get it at the dealership, that's just way to much money to blow on. I'm currently in the process of doing the motor replacement per the DIY thread, just like the guys above me stated, you will save alot, there's also a video on that thread that'll help you walk through it.

The door lock actuator should cost around $220. Installation should be 1.5 hrs.
