New to the forum and just bought a 2003 GS300 with 67,000 miles...

Owner of the car passed away and owners daughter was the one selling the car. She doesn't really anything about service history of the car. I went to a Lexus dealer and ask them to run the vin for the service history. I found out that the previous owner never took it in to any lexus dealer since he bought it. I'm the 3rd owner, 1st owner leased the car for 3 years and kept up to all the maintenance.

First time changing the oil and I'm thinking about switching to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. Is it safe for me to switch to full synthetic with 67K miles on my car not knowing what kind of oil the previous owner was using before? If so, what oil filter do you guys refer if I do switch to full synthetic?

Any advise would help. Thanks!

 

I switched to M1 Full Synthetic at 120K miles, so I dont see any reason for it to "not be safe". As for filters, I use the oem toyota oil filters, you can get them for around $3 from sewell, +shipping. Otherwise I go Purolator PureOne.

 

I switched to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic around 51,000 miles but only for winters then I would switch back to conventional in spring. I've since stopped that practice and now run synthetic all year round. I had no issues whatsoever so you should be good. I also use the Mobil 1 oil filter.
