Default 1999 GS 300 Starting problems..

I have a 1999 GS 300 and here in the past 2 weeks or so, whenever I go to start the car, all I hear is a click sometimes. Sometimes It will click like 3 times or so in a row then it will finally start, and sometimes it will start right up. Sometimes I've noticed as well that it seems like it barely wants to start like a low voltage situation, then it starts.

I took the battery connections off last night and cleaned them from the corrosion, but it still does it. The battery is about a year old. Any ideas on what might be the problem? Thanks

sounds like the starter is going bad to me too sometimes you can hit the starter to get some more life out of it, worked on my tacoma i had a bad starter for 2 months , it was a manual so if it didnt start than id just push it down a hill and start it

it's probably the starter. i have a 99 GS and my starter went out last summer. just have it rebuilt. i had a local shop rebuild the factory denso for like $110. i think the stealership will charge you around 500-600 for a brand new one.

you can also rebuild the starter for a whole lot less by replacing the contacts.

Yes,, It is the starter.. I had the same problem on my 99 GS. It got worse over time and finally left me stranded..I thought it was the battery cables at first.

Thanks for the help guys. Sounds like we all had the same situation.

Did any of you take it out by yourself, or is it a real pain?

As far as the starter contacts, do you have a link as to what I would need to get? Does this seem to be the problem a lot of times?

Hey guys- Is this the same problem I'm having?

Okay, sometimes when i put the key in and turn on the engine, nothing happens-no lights will turn on, it'll 'start' but then die, it's like a need a jump or something.

I take the key out and put it back in and when i turn the key, it's like nothing ever happened. the car starts like normal and it purring the a kitten. WTH?
