HIDs
As for aftermarket kits, since the older SC's have no OEM kits, aftermarket was really the only option...well, you can do a "hybrid" system (using the optics of another car) but that's a wee bit more involved than what I think most people would want to do...maybe one day, someone will make a "hybrid" kit...

Anyways, since I own BOTH a OEM equipped HID car (my GS430) and a aftermarket HID car (my SC400). I can definitely say the GS430 puts out a better light pattern and puts out more light....however, I am happy with my SC400's AutoLamps-Online HID kit...it's SUCH an improvement over the stock halogens.
As for 4100K vs. 6000K, I am in the process of getting another 6000K bulb (right now, I only have one) to do some "long term" testing. Since I've been using the 4100K for the past month or so, I decided to try the 6000K out and see if 400 lumen loss matters to me...aesthetically, I'll have to wait and see. Side by side, the 6100K looked purplish and the 4100K looked yellow/greenish through my SC's projectors. However, with the 4100K alone, they definitely look white (check out my photos in the group buy section).
Listen to Lex400SC...with HID's, he really knows his stuff...honestly, I would say more than any other single person here...
