Default While I'm at it...

Hey guys, bought my 1999 GS400 over the summer and now with 154,xxx miles it needs some work. I will preface this with the fact that I know very little about mechanics and proper maintenance(besides oil changes basically..). I had a mechanic look at it to tell me what it needs. I trust his recommendations, but am wondering if it's wise to go ahead with some other work while he's got certain things taken apart, etc.

What I am currently going to have him do: new front brakes and rotors, new upper ball joints(I researched as much as I could and know they usually do the tie rods(if I remember the name correctly?) with that), front sway links, front struts, and also a flush for the power steering/transmission/brakes/coolant.

He said nothing about the bushings, but I read those tend to go...and I do have a lot of noise going over bumps...could that be it? I might as well get new ones while I'm doing all this, perhaps??

Anyway...like I said...just looking for some input on if you guys think I should go ahead with some other stuff that is either already shot and he didn't catch it, or will need replacement soon anyway. For example, with that much mileage...how much life does any of my suspension(and remember I don't even know all the parts that "suspension" entails =\) have left in it?

LOVE the site, and apologize if this was all searchable, but bc I know so little, it's hard to even know WHAT to search for. Thank you for any help.

Thanks for the input and for the welcome.

Can anyone give me anymore input on the bushings?

I also just remembered that sometimes(can't pinpoint anything to narrow it down to a certain time) when turning the steering wheel, There is a cracking sound and a bit of a cracking feeling at the base of the wheel....new steering pump...steering rack??
