Where exactly is this supposed ECU? I'm aware of the manual shift lock override lever to the left of the shift ****, but that's it.

I checked my fuses and they are ok. I replaced the STOP fuse and I still can't get out of park.

My RADIO2 fuse is ok as well. Should I check to see if there's something that's not being grounded as mentioned in the second post?

I have an aftermarket HU too.

I have the same problem. Replaced all the fuses and changed the brake switch. Still not fixed. I think it's either the shift lock selonoid or the ecu. My money is on the solenoid. So lame needing a screwdriver to operate my car.

If you look at the online manual, it looks like the ecu is in the console next to the shifter. The problem is, that it looks like a/c duct in the console and maybe the entire console needs to be removed to get to the ecu. Can anyone confirm because I am thinking about checking this tomorrow.

Default shift solenoid

I think it is the shift solenoid. Mine just suddenly quit working. I know my fuse is good and I have brake lights. That coil is probably shot, so I'll need a new one. It is labor intensive to change it. The whole console has to be disassembled.

Has anyone changed this part before? Pictures? Tutorial?
Thanks!!

I just stuck the end of a ziptie into the manual override. I can shift in and out of gears now, just that it won't lock when I don't have the key in the car or my foot on the brake. Not a big deal for me.

You have to replace your Shift Interlock Control Unit. Part # 85903-30020 approx $184 for the part only. Does not include installation. The wife's GS400 (98) had the same issue.

Good luck.

I just let an independent shop take care of it, pretty sure they ordered it from Lexus.

I just got mine repaired at an independant shop. It got stuck between park and reverse and it was the Shfit Lock Solenoid. It was $180 for the part and 4 hours Labor. Almost a $500 job.

Good lord. This forum has more necroposts than any I've ever been on before!

I suppose that's a good thing. It means people are using the search utility - which is way underutilized on every other forum I frequent.
