I have a few quick questions on resetting the ECM. First off, do I only need to disconnect the negative battery cable, or do I have to disconnect both negative and positive cables from the battery? Second, how long do I need to wait before reconnecting? I've read some people on here only wait 15 minutes, while another waited an hour. Lastly, I have never disconnected a battery, do I need a special wrench/vice grip with a rubber/plastic cover, or can I touch the bare metal of the wrench without getting shocked? The dealership still cant figure out why my transmission shifts hard/slips from first to second, so I thought I would give this a shot to see if I notice a fix.
naw just neg your good. Let it set for a 1 min or so. Doesnt have to be 15min. Standard wrench will do. You wont get shocked if you just pull the neg. If you just pull positive you will shoot a couple of sparks.
FYI, When you put your key into start hit memory setting on your seats again to save. If i cant remember but your radio stations should be saved, not the same on my old LS so cant remember. Nav settings like brightness and contrast will also need to be reset.
