Default System installed.. quick question.

I had an old box laying around with two alpine type-r 12's in it, got bored last night and tried putting it in my trunk.

Who would of thunk it was a perfect fit.

Anyways, got everything wired up and installed, but wondering what everybody else was doing for a switched 12v source for amp turn on in the trunk? Right now I have it tied in to my parking lights, but I really don't like driving around with them on all day. Any suggestions were I could pull switched 12v from?

Here is a picture for your time. I know the trunk is dirty I just haven't vacuumed it out yet.

I wouldn't recomment mounting that amp to the box. I blew up a jl 1000/1 doing that. anyway, I'd run the turn on right off the ACC on the back of the stereo.

You can find an open auxiliary slot on your fuse box thats hooked up to your ignition switch. Or just hook it up to your deck (if aftermaket)

eh its been like that for almost 4 years and hasnt blown up yet. thanks for the advice though. im trying to avoid having to rip apart the interior again, found a line level converter that has remote turn on for the amp built in, might just buy one.

I've heard that myth, but IMO there is usually something else wrong... I've seen some HUGE systems with the amps mounted right over a the port of a cut through in trucks but yea, you would think the vibrations would knock something off, but amp on box is quite a common thing.

Heres a small explanation I gave in a thread of an other member with the same question:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...ock-hu-ml.html

he can probably tell you which one he used too.

Yeah I realized were the fuse box was right after I put everything back together. I read that thread, but I just ordered a line level converter that has a remote amp wire built in, pulls power from the 12v going to the amp, uses a speaker wire to know when the stereo is on, and has a 6v wire to connect the amp. And it's probably built a little better than the box I got at walmart for $15 .

I know technology has come a long way , but I dont like the idea... on the other hand, I know how its working and I wonder if its gonna do the same thing my 'remote turn on' does at home. When it doesnt sense a large enough signal... its gonna shut off. that crap pisses me off!!! LoL again, dont know what will happen. Post up when you get it done and give a review.

what kind of head unit are you running? it seems that you are running your factory radio. if you are running the factory wire i think it is Radio Amplifier the White/Blue behind the dash.

That box looks a little small for those 12's but pretty nice tho. You can take out your cd player which is only 4 bolts. Just pull the cigarette lighter out with your hands and pop out the vents with a flat head (cushion it first with cloth or whatever to not hurt your interior. The bolts are 10mm. When you have it out undo the wire snaps and you can splice the remote wire from you amp to the big snap that has a red wire with a + painted on. Then your amp turns on every time your cd player is on.

Also, if you hooked it into the stock head unit, did you have to hook up the LOC (Line out Converter)?
