Default $610 to replace a button!?!

it all started when the button for the back left window would only move the window down. A little while after that the plastic button to the window came out of the door. I saved the part and asked lexus to fix it the next time i got the car serviced.

they told me that they couldnt just put i new plastic bit in that i had to get an entire new master window switch which would be about 560 and labor would be around 50. 610 dollars to replace a dam button?!?

i can slip the piece back into the slot and it will move the window if i push it right but lexus says i still have to replace entire unit.

Does anyone know of a better solution? or a place to get the part cheaper? or a DIY on how to install it? or do i not even need this part and lexus lied.

i mean u prolly dnt need it unless u wanna roll ur window down. i wuld say u DNT NEED it, BUT u may REALLY WANT IT. the dealer will over charge u for everythng. i would try to reconnect it if i were u. like if u can get it on n make it work with a dry fit, i wuldnt waste money replacing the whole unit for a back window, especially if the one on that door still works.

Did they happen to mention that the K-Y was free? With that price, it has got to be. OUCH!

2 ways off the top of my head. First is always go to ebay and find a salvaged GS to buy off of or find one that is being sold. Second (and depends on how mechanically inclined you are)... I had the same problem on my other car and I opened the little button up and I was able to visualize what was wrong and I was able to repair it. Its not really easy to explain, you would have to just open it up and visualize what is NOT happening and make it happen...

hope that helps

oh and, if you're talking about the switch on the driver door for the back window, worst case scenario, you can pull the switch off the back door and swap it with the one up front, I had did that at first with my other car but found that it wasnt a switch problem, it was the board that was heating up and melting the plastic toggle on the button that clicked the switch (I hope its not to confusing trying to help)

I say buy one of the switches off of ebay and switch it out. I'm almost sure they are all the same.

Yeah, you are buying a whole new unit...they aren't going to sell you a switch and fix it.

Just buy a used unit from someone here or on Ebay...better chances on here than Ebay though, for a cheaper unit at least.

Hit up the junkyard vendors here...I think it's RnJ distributing, and another one.

IIRC, it has a springy metal tab on the side pointing to the rear and on the side pointing forward has a plastic tab that slides forward. You would get a flat head screwdriver on the side pointing to the rear and gently pry upward and it should come out with ease. Flip it over and look at the plastic tab on the front side and you should be able to make out how it goes back in, it will just slide and snap right back in .

To be safe, wait till you get the new one and look for what side the springy metal tab is on cause if you pry on the plastic tab side, you can and will break it.. Once you get it off there are 5 or 6 plugs you will removed that will only fit in one location just plug the new one in and you're done

hope that helps
