My homeboy has a silver LS400 w/mirrored tint. (but it may not be what you think) it looks classic black but when you look directly into it is a perfect mirror I really like the look it is 15%. from a distance black up close mirror but IMHO the mirror black with the silver is not a good look.

IMO it just doesn't look complete with no tints on a modded GS. . NYC cops, some of them are a-holes.

That's not the point. The point is: On a hot summer day, when your car is parked out under the sun, you'll be baking the interior.

Yes, I sympathize with you...and for your sake, I wish NY state was a little more tolerant in allowing some tints. If you can find a legal way to do it, or a way to loophole it, fine...go for it. I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones...my car sits in a covered parking garage all day, and I usually can access shady places when I park. elsewhere. Just imagine the guys in the Southwest....AZ, NM, etc...what THEY go through in summer. I just don't want to see you have problems with state auto inspectors, cops, or your insurance....some policies don't cover illegal modifications.
Some states outlaw really dark or one-way tints for a reason, though. I know there are probably no criminals on these Lexus forums, but police have been shot during routine traffic stops because the dark or one-way tint couldn't let them see someone inside drawing a gun.

on our acura tl, i had the custom mirrored to black tint. it would start out as mirrored on the top..and fade into black. i liked it at first, cuz noone else had it...but now...i like the black tint....it just looks cleaner. btw..our tint is 15%...and it looks like this in direct sunlite

You guys with 35% on the windshield....does it affect your night driving? I mean, sometimes it gets really really dark out there!

The GS I'm getting is tinted already. Probably 20% or 25% all around. But it looks like it's a "cheap" tint. I just noticed that it had a very very slight purple look to it when you're really carefully looking at it (you know the same purple tints that you see on crappy cars that start to bubble up & peel).

I'll probably redo the tints if they look bad. I really haven't had time to fully look over the car in a detailed manner yet.

From reading this forum, I guess 3M is the way to go right?

I have 15% in Florida... and it's enough. I got tired of being pulled over for my 5% tints on my GS, so on the SC I got 15%.

Also, the interior color can make a little bit of a difference in whether you see in or not.

I got 15% Platinum tints made by Diamond, with lifetime replacement for any reason, for $125 at a local shop.

Also, for those interested, the car has Zaino on it.

the dealer threw them in with the car. However, on ebay i believe they're going for around $200.

DONT GET THE 3M TINT. My cousins, and a couple of friends got it, and it was already peeling w/in a couple of months. i have heard bad things about the 3m film too.

Koreanpers, thanks for the heads up. I heard 3M was good. Hmmmm, interesting.

Can someone throw in a brand or two that they personally recommend (non of that "it'll turn purple in 4 years" type of tint).
