Default Pre-Driven GS Pricing?

I have been comparing prices around the country for used GS's. It seems some parts of the country offer a "better deal", southern states seem to be less expensive.

Am I wrong?

Yes that is correct.....it all depends on where you buy! Even dealer know about that! They have a little BLACK book they get their numbers from. Ask them about it, see if they let you look at one!!!!!!

I just bought my 1999 GS300 w/ 50k miles on it for $25,500. I actually found the South E. to be more expensive than up north. (??)

I have to agree, I have been looking around for the last month at G4's and here in So Cal they are very expensive compared to the rest of the country. The Dealers absolutely gut you when trying to get a deal around here, they all act as if they have the last one's in exsistance.

It's a real eye opener to see the same car/ same milage on the east coast/gulf coast or mid-west going for 8-10k less than here locally. Even Private party sales have advertised prices just a hair under the dealer numbers.

But I just got Lucky!!!

that is strange when i was doing my research i was finding much better deals in So Cal then I was finding in the DC area, esp with GS400's where it seems like there are alot more out there then there are here. just my observations though...i guess the grass is always greener

Isn't the cars in Ca. More expensice since they have a more restrictive exhaust system?

Restrictive exhaust does not apply to the GS , or for that matter, very late model cars - and that's why you see the same HP figures nationwide. That's because a lot of states have adapted to the more stringent CA emission requirements.

Talking GS Prices

I know for a fact that the prices down south are not always the best. I have bought two Lexuses and have gotten better prices up north. I bought my 92 ES300 in 97 and paid 16k for it in Alexandria, Va while the asking price was 17,800. The same car had a asking price of like 21k in Charleston, SC. When I recently bought my GS400 a couple of months ago I encountered the same thing. I bought of 2000 GS400 platinum edition with NAV, HID's and 14k miles at Lexus of Alexandria in VA for 36k. That was there asking and was the rock bottom price. I do admit that it was a very good price but that does not excuse the asking price here in Charlotte of 42,000 for a 2000 gs400 w/o NAV with 32k. It comes down to how much competition is in the area. In Charlotte, if you want a CPO Lexus, you have no choice but that one dealership within a 1.5 hour radius. But in DC you have 4 dealerships within roughly 30-45 mins of each other and if you are willing to drive a hour that raises the number to 5. In the south I have found that mostly american cars are cheaper because there are more domestic dealers but once you deal with a high end luxury car like the Lexus, that is not the case. IMHO

You are right about Charlotte area dealerships -- they want 10% more than other places. I just bought a 2001 GS430 in Augusta, GA - one owner, local car, 7200 miles, 8 months old, premium pkg, wood steering wheel, 17" alloys, no Nav, no Mark L., absolutely spotless for under $40k, had been asking $42,900. I had been pricing and making offers for a few months, and I think the midwest and California seem to have the best prices. Also, CA dealers were more receptive to lower offers. I found the asking prices for '99 and '00 GS400 models higher proportional to age, mileage, upfits, etc. than the 430s. I think you can expect to get between 3% and 7% off of asking price depending on the car and dealership. By the way, I have had the car for 10 days now, and it is better than I expected, even with the stock suspension. Looking forward to a long and enjoyable driving experience.
