Your chest/head will hurt very bad in a crash from hitting the steering wheel. I looked into this very hard when I had my 98 GS3. You would have to go with the RX wheel and all that razamatazz, cuz zeroism's wheel is for 01+, if you look carefully, the angles where the center airbag meets the actual wheel is steeper on the 98-00 and less so on the 01+. Are these very rare in a GS? My wife's '01 has this steering wheel and I would have assumed them to be common in a Lexus.

The 01-03 RX steering wheel WILL NOT work with your 98-00 GS airbag. I mean, it will work but it will not fit right. They have different shapes to them. The 01-03 RX airbag is the only single stage airbag with the dual stage (chrome L) look. the 98-00 GS has a single stage air bag. it uses the same steering wheel as the 01-03 RX300, which did come with a wood grain steering wheel.
P.S. I have had 5 different wheels & airbags on my 98 GS400. Also, there is a way to wire a dual stage airbag into a single. Search the SC3/4 section if you feel comfortable doing it.

I actually have a practically brand new aftermarket one from Grazio&Co. I've only had it for 3 days. But I got a really good deal on a JDM black wood interior so I am going to go with a black wood one instead.

This steering wheel is really good quality and has the perforated leather with the sports grip and the wood is a perfect match with the interior parts. It's originally for the 01-04 GS but can easily be installed to the 98-00 GS as long as you have the 01-04 airbag which I also have.
I bought the steering wheel for $630 and the airbag for $350. But I decided to change my interior all to black wood instead. If you buy both I'll sell em to you for only $700 plus shipping. Please let me know
