Default high mount stop light bulb size

hey guys,

does anyone know where i can get the 921 bulb in 5 watts? my high mount stop light bulbs went out (2 of them) and i replaced them with 194 seeing how they look the same but i still get the bulb out warning. so, i went to look for the 921 bulbs on line but it seems they only come in 17 watts or higher. our lexus manual states that we need the 5 watt 921 bulb.

also, the 921 bulb seems to be wayyyy too big to fit into the high mount stop light. i've also searched and it seems that someone found that the high mount stop light uses the 2825 bulb as per post 1.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...-led-help.html

i have a 1999 gs300 by they way. can someone help me figure out which bulbs i need so that the annoying "bulb out" warning light turns off!

No one has had to change their high mount stop light bulbs before? Any help would be appreciated.

What bulb did you pull out of the car that was burned out??? Seems to me you would just replace it with the same number bulb,no? Try the dealer for the bulb. Or a local auto parts store. If a 921 came out of the lens,i am sure it's not waaaaayyyy too big then. Sylvania.com says the high mount bulb is a 921. The bulb should also have the number printed on the glass, very small, but should be there.

It takes 10 minutes to remove the warning light on the dash. There is a DIY thread on here for such.

Pull out the warning light and put whatever you want on the back half of the car.

i pulled out what looked like a 194 however, it had T5 printed on it. i replaced all of the bulbs with 194s but the bulb out warning light is still on. all the new bulbs light up.

so, seeing how i have no other stop lights out, i must've used a wrong bulb for the high mount. the original bulbs look like 194s but maybe they are of higher watts??? the 921 bulbs definitely do not fit in the high mount stop light housing.

Check the tail lights. The warning light goes on any time any of the brake lights go out. Or the bulb can be loose in its socket.

alright it's finally fixed. i put in 168 bulbs in there instead of the 194s. i guess the wattage of the 194s was not high enough. the 4.9 watt 168s fixed it. the lexus owners manual states the bulb size is 921 for some reason.

thanks everyone!

i'm just going to leave a few key words below for ease of future searches.

2gs high mount stop light bulb replacement
2gs high mount stop light bulb size = 168

good question. I'm guessing you have to lay in the trunk and do it somehow.

you mean the 3rd brake light thats located at the bottom of the rear windshield?

you access it from the rear deck lid, basically slide the whole unit to one side and it should be able to be poped upward and out. then unplug the single plug there.
