you access it from the rear deck lid, basically slide the whole unit to one side and it should be able to be poped upward and out. then unplug the single plug there.
but this section is built up of 5 individual bulbs so may as well replace all while your there or do LED while your there

thanks everyone!

i'm just going to leave a few key words below for ease of future searches.

2gs high mount stop light bulb replacement
2gs high mount stop light bulb size = 168
Thanks for this! although this post is over 4 years old, it still came in handy.
high mount stop lights replaced with 168's.

What was Lexus thinking? 921's don't even come close.

I had purchased some T5 7-LED bulbs on eBay. I have the same ones as parking lights and license plate lights for quite some time now. No bulb out warnings whatsoever.

Now I purchased 5 more for the high mount brake light. When I put these 7-LED bulbs in it triggers the brake warning light... It bothered me so much I just put back the original bulbs. (took me a while to figure out it were the bulbs, I had checked everything, fluid level, etc.)

I guess only the V-Led bulbs don't trigger the warning light.

i never said that....i had a bulb out warning light but i removed it.i never bothered to narrow it down to see if it was from my taillights or my high mount brake light as ALL my exterior lights (except my turn signals) are LEDS

I know you never said that. I just assumed you didn't have the warning light issue.

How did you remove it? Did you take out the bulb in the gauge cluster? If so, then you wouldn't know when the parking brake is on or not, right?

This thread is correct, the 168's do indeed work and correct the dash brake warning lamp. Its not that Lexus was wrong with the 921's, its that they are a different type of 921's or they have discontinued the original 921. The current 921's are "921 ST" or whatever the letters are afterwards. How do I know this? Because the lights I replaced where factory bulbs and they did say "921" on them followed by a single letter, cannot remember now but I think it was "F". These 921's that I replaced where also the correct size, while the newer 921's are larger.

Just replaced one bulb, oops - just became two. Key thing to note about removing the light is that you should push the whole unit toward the rear of the car then lift up on the end closest to you and then slide back away from the rear window.
I couldn't find 194 bulbs at walmart but I had two 2825 - 5W bulbs in a package in my glovebox I replaced the burned out bulb and then tested the unit before installing back in the car. One of the four original remaining bulbs in unit burned out when I tested so I had to replace another bulb. I tested again and all works well with no dash light indicator of a burned out bulb.
Is the 2825 bulb a suitable replacement for the 194?
