Driveline thump or clunk
Hi I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice. I have 1998 GS300 with 100,000 miles or so and when I accelerate quickly I get a thumping or clunking noise. It only happens when I first take off hard and does not vibrate or squeak. It seems to be coming from the driveshaft hump in the floor right in front of the rear seat lower cushion. I am thinking it is the driveshaft center support bearing. I looked at it and shook the driveshaft a bit and it did move around a bit but it seems like it is rubber mounted so the movement may be normal. Can you guys offer me any input as to how hard it is to change the bearing it on a second gen GS and if this could be the right diagnosis. This is driving me crazy!
My car is not doing when I put in gear just when I accelerate hard from a dead stop, but I will be checking my diff fluid levels since oher have mentioned it on other threads.
