Question What Do You Belive Has Most Potential?

Well... everyone says if you could have a GS400 w/mods or an M5 blah blah... stuff like that when money is no object when in reality the 2JZ-GTE motor hold more potential than the 4.0... what do you belive?

If we're talking about POTENTIAL then a GS400/GS430 has definitely more of it. If we're talking about being REALISTIC as to what we can do with the engines now, then there is no doubt that the 2JZ-GTE is the shining star. Personally, I don't think the V8 in the GS will ever be explored to it's full potential. I hope you can see the reasons why. Anyhow, getting back to the potential. How does a 4.5 GS430 (stroked) with a nice SP74+ single turbo, fuel system, blah blah blah, and a dual stage 200 shot NOS setup sound?

I am with you on that one Sasha, we never got the 400 here and the 430 is not in my price range at the moment.

That's cool, but remember that the question in mind was about POTENTIAL and not which one we would take.

Ah, but we're not talking about the price and availability. It's POTENTIAL! Just kidding richie.

If anyone wants to look at POTENTIAL, just take a peek at the HKS Drag Supra which uses the Lexus 4.0L V-8 powered JZA80 and is good for 1,479 hp.

u have a point that was one crazy supra man... but the RB26DETT motor made 2000HP and its was only stroked to 2.7L.. im sure the GTE could muster 2000RWHP if desired.

i guess people realize the 2JZ is dying

O/T - marisuz how is ur car man? u sold it or somethign right?

The HKS 1UZ has most parts of the engine replaced. If we're talkin about stock internals with maybe add-on turbo or something then the 2JZ can go to around 500rwhp but what about the 1UZ? The aluminum block is the main problem. Can it take the power from a turbo that needs to pump out 500rwhp?

By potential I had in mind the *maximum amout of power the engine can output, regardless of the mods to it. There is no doubt in my mind that the V8 (with stock internals) will not handle 500rwhp, at least not for long. You will at least need to change the head gaskets when in the range of 450-500rwhp. Mo can vouche for that. Above 500, you will need different pistons (not to mention tranny work)....... The 2JZE-GTE will handle 450RWHP (max) on stock turbos. However, when you do all the necessary work for both the 2JZE-GTE and the JZA80, such as pistons and etc...., I think the V8 has the potential to produce more power. I guess one can argue that after you're done with everything it might not be a JZA80 lol. Also, this is not to say that it won't cost more or take a sh*t load of time to do. Just the "potential."

The aluminum block is the main problem.
Agree without a doubt. As a matter of fact, I can think of several other ones too, but I'm going to try to stick to "potential."

you guys are forgetting the question here, its which car has more potential the GS300 or GS4XX which translates into 2JZ-GE and the 1UZ-FE and not the 2JZ-GTE under these conditions I would go with the big V-8 logically and economicly speaking. It would cost me about 6k-8k to get the V-8 to about 500hp at the crank yet if I spend that much on the I-6 I would probably end up with about 450hp at the crank. But if the V300 came into play I would defenetly go with that car as the one with most potential for the best price

Ah, the cost factor Heck we can talk about it. It's a public forum after all biggie, tell me where they are giving out 500hp for 6-8K For 4-6K on the I6 will get you a bigger turbo and maybe a fuel system (if you get a nice hookup). You'll crank the boost up to 1.8bar (maybe more ) with your $300 boost controller and you'll be above 500hp in no time. Just look at those pesky supra's

In case you were wondring why so many smiley faces.......it's becasue I'm already in that 500+ hp car (in my mind that is).

Definitely GS3. I'm in search of a replacement for my GS430. Lexus cuts too many corners for the GS430 because we care about the enviornment so much and I totally forget that GS is a "sedan".

Definitely GS3
Care to justify why you think the GS3 has more POTENTIAL? I'm interested in your reasoning. Thanks.
