Default 99-00 Nav system into 01+

I need some help here from the people that are in the know. I'm looking into adding the Nav system from an 98-00 GS into my 04 GS. As long as I have all the components (Head unit, Hard drive, Nav computer, and the plugs, cables, etc)

Should this be a simple, swap or am I wrong.

if your gonna this kinda work, why not do a 01+ nav unit?

I've been told that the 01+ system is more difficult to install in a none Nav car. Is this true?

Plus the going price for the 98-00 is less.

it probably is true BUT y would u "upgrade" to a model that couldn't be updated past 2004? seems counter productive....

yeah going price is DEF gonna be less for a now defunct model/version of there GPS

I want to keep it looking as OEM "stock" if you will. My last to cars have been broken into for the aftermarket head units, and the last car was stolen and recovered as a total loss!

I do understand that with a 01+ system would be better, and an aftermarket nav system even better if not the best way to go. Its I'm just worried about some @ss getting into to my car again.
